1945: All of the original log structures, including the 3,000 sq. ft. lodge, were built.
1940-1980 : During this period, the facility was called Trout Point Lodge. It was used mainly as a hunting & fishing retreat. The area continues to be a destination for avid hunters and fishermen.
1980-2015: For 35 years, the property operated as “The Healing Lodge”. It was owned & operated by various Indigenous groups as a place of wellness. The land is lush with traditional medicinal plants and foods.
2015-PRESENT: The current Stewards of the land and are dedicated to preserving the history and natural surroundings.
Situated in Anishinabek territory and located on a private road in high magnetic area (The area is recognized by NASA as the location of the highest positive magnetic charge in North America). The lodge has a very strong Indigenous connection – it is part of a 6,000 year-old traditional canoe route. The lake even has original Indigenous trout as recognized by Ministry of Natural Resources. Manitou is a deep, crystal clear lake, fed by more than 200 effervescent artesian springs.
